Hatteras Island Fishing Report

The day started out pretty nice. Temperatures were in the mid 70’s and skies were partly cloudy until late afternoon when rain and thunder storms set in. Winds were from the South-West and calm til around noon when they picked up to 10-15 mph.

From the beach today the fishing picked up. In Avon there was sea-mullet from the beach. The Avon Pier opened today and there were sea-mullet, bluefish, and a few small flounder caught. In Buxton there was sea-mullet and a 40 inch cobia caught near the jetty’s. Here in Frisco the sea-mullet and puppy drum were biting. In Hatteras there was small bluefish, a few sea-mullet, flounder and puppy drum caught.

Pam Smith from Buxton caught a nice 25 inch puppy drum right here on Ramp 49 right as the rain started.

Inshore fishing was good today. There was some spanish mackerel, bluefish, and cobia caught. A few people are starting to go clamming and are having good luck.

Even with the rougher conditions the fishing was still good offshore. The billfish are still biting with sailfish, white marlin, and blue marlin being released today. From the bottom there was a good amber jack bite. The dolphin and black-fin tuna bite was good today.

The third day of the Hatteras Village Offshore Open was a a little rough. Most boats took a lay day for today.
