H.R. 4094, Congressman Walter B. Jones’ bill to preserve public access to Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational Area, passed out of the House Committee on Natural Resources this week. The next step is for the Bill to be heard on the House Floor for a vote. “This is a major win for the people of Hatteras and the state of North Carolina,” said Jones. Congressman Jones has been working for many years to fight the shrinking access to our National Seashore and to prevent the economic stress on the communities in North Carolina that benefit from the visitation to the Seashore. “This bill is about jobs and the taxpayers’ right to access the recreational areas they own. It’s about restoring balance and common sense to Park Service management. I would like to thank the Natural Resources Committee for doing what is right,” said Jones in a statement this week.
The Dare County Board of Commissioners and the Outer Banks Preservation Association have been working with Congressman Jones’ office in support of H.R. 4094. This is one step in the process, but it is a step to be celebrated!
What is next? Everyone needs to contact their Congressional Representatives to ask for their support of H.R. 4094 so it will pass when the vote comes up.
Also, North Carolina Senators Richard Burr and Kay Hagan introduced Senate Bill S.2372 to preserve pedestrian and ORV access at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational Area on April 26,2012. This Senate Bill is still in Committee. Please call your Senators and ask for their support to get S. 2372 to the Senate Floor!
We will update you as things progress and news happens!

Here is the Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banks Fishing Report for Hatteras Island:
The weather in Frisco today was sunny and warm with light wind. We had west south-west winds 5-10 mph and the temperatures were in mid 80’s. The only report from the surf today were some nice cobias caught over ramp 43 in Buxton. The inshore boats had real good big red drum fishing. Several release citations were caught. A few cobias were also caught from the inshore fleet. The offshore gaffer dolphin fishing was excellent after tropical storm Beryl passed by. There were a few wahoo and blackfin tuna caught too. Two blue marlin caught today. One came back to the dock. A 420 lb blue marlin aboard the “Hatteras Fever II” Picture below:

The Big Rock Blue Marlin tournament starts June 8 and ends June 16. The fishing days are June 11-16. The Blue Marlin action has been hot. It should make for a exciting tournament.

Here is the Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banks Fishing Report for Hatteras Island:
Today the weather in Frisco was very windy with lots of rain. We had tropical storm Beryl pass directly over us this afternoon. The winds were from the south-east all morning, switching to the north-west after 6 pm at 20-35 mph with some gust around 50 mph between 1pm and 7 pm. We had heavy rain most of the day. By late afternoon it was just wind. Needless to say no fish were caught, but one camper told me that he saw some guys give it a try over on the Frisco beach. Tomorrow the weather will be back to normal with west winds at 10-15 mph going around to the south by night fall.
