The weather today was decent with winds blowing NE 10-15 mph and sunny skies. The temperatures went from mid 70’s to high 70’s throughout the day. Beach Fishing was a little different today. Here recently sea mullet has been the word, but Spanish Mackerel was the new hot topic. Beach fishermen off of Hatteras Beach reported nice catches of Spanish as they got close to the closure at the inlet. We can only imagine how great of a bite it could have been if the inlet was open. There were also reports of pompano caught off of ramp 49 today. 11 year old, Maxx Bunce, caught a citation sized pompano weighing 2 lbs 1 oz. Congrats Maxx. Inshore fishing reports were also very comforting. Reports of lots of Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish, Gray Trout and decent sized keeper Flounder. One captain also reported sightings of a couple of Cobia, so they are still wondering around. Offshore Charters also reported a nice day. Good catches of Dolphin, scattered Wahoo, and few Blackfin Tuna. Three billfish were reported out of Hatteras Harbor Marina. Bite Me released 1 sailfish, Sundown released 1 sailfish, and Boss Lady released 1 Blue Marlin. The Big Rock is still rollin’ on strong. Today Sushi weighed in a 467 lb Blue Marlin putting them in 3rd place today.They are behind Double B(1st) with a 652.8 lb, and Blue water (2nd) with a 580.6 lb fish. The wind is expected to switch directions tomorrow to S 10-20 mph and SW 15-25 mph tomorrow evening. Fishing might slow down a little, but you’ll never know unless you toss a line in the water. As we always say “the best time to go fishing is when you have time to go fishing.”
