Today was cooler with sunshine, a little break in the gloom that Hurricane Erin brought. Clean up has already started in some places but Hwy 12 remains closed as of this time. Today’s high was 79 while the low was 70 with light to gentle winds. Gusts up to 25mph. Currently it’s 70, feels like 71, with NE winds around 5mph. Tomorrow should hold more light to gentle winds. Temps will be similar again.

August 20, 2025
Today was a preview into the real deal. While the ocean overwash has already started, the winds have just begun. So, tomorrow will be interesting to see how everything unfolds. Hopefully Hurricane Erin gives our fragile beachline some grace. Today’s high was 84 while the low was 79 with light to moderate winds. Gusts up to 29mph. Currently it’s 81, feels like 84, with NE winds around 14mph. Gusts around 29mph. Tomorrow is going to bring strong winds with even stronger gusts and the ocean is only going to continue to swell. Instead of trying to predict the storm I’ll refer you to Windy Weather, Willy Weather, and NOAA sites for information.

Today held more sunshine and calm before the storm. Ocean overwash at the usual places did start at this evening’s high tide, as expected. The high was 88 while the low was 75 with light to gentle winds. Gusts up to 13mph. Currently it’s 79, feels like 87, with ENE winds around 4mph. Tomorrow is when the real deal starts. Instead of trying to predict the storm I’ll refer you to Windy Weather, Willy Weather, and NOAA sites for information.

Today brought sunshine and calm before the storm. The high was 87 while the low was 73 with light winds. Gusts up to 10mph. Currently it’s 77, feels like 85, with NE winds around 4mph. Tomorrow winds should still be light to gentle speeds before increasing on Wednesday. Temps should hover around low 80s. As of 6:30-7:00pm the side roads off of Old Lighthouse in Buxton have started to flood. So the Cape Hatteras Motels are likely not far behind.

Offshore: Offshore boats caught Blackfin Tuna, Dolphin, Wahoo, and some bottom fish over the last couple days. Releases included Blue Marlin and Sailfish.
