• Hatteras Island Fishing Report

Here is the Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banks Fishing Report for Hatteras Island:

What a beautiful Easter Sunday here on Hatteras Island.  We had sunny skies with the winds from the south-west at 10-15 mph and the temperatures were in the mid 60’s.  The blow toads and sea mullet fishing continues to be good.  Seems like the Frisco and Hatteras beaches are producing the most.  The yellowfin tuna fishing was excellent in  the offshore waters of Hatteras today, with limits.  A few blackfin tuna were mixed in.  Below is one of the yellowfin tuna limits from the “Bite Me” charter boat.

Here is the Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banks Fishing Report for Hatteras Island:

Today started out windy and cool.  This morning Hatteras Island had north winds 15-20 mph and the temperatures were in the mid 50’s.  By early afternoon the winds were out of the south-west 5-10 mph and the temperatures were in the upper 50’s.  Easter Sunday will be so nice.  Sunny skies and light west winds with temperatures in the mid 60’s.  A great day to come and enjoy Hatteras Island.  The fishing picked up today with the weather calming.  Cape Point had some puppy drum, sea mullet  and blow toads.  All the way down the Frisco and Hatteras beaches there were blow toads and sea mullet caught.  Around the Frisco Pier the blow toads and sea mullet fishing was better.  No boats fishing offshore today.  Tomorrow the weather will be nice and boats will be fishing.

  • Jose Wejebe “Spanish Fly” Dies in Plane Crash

The fishing community has lost a friend yesterday.  On Friday afternoon Jose Wejebe of the popular TV  show “Spanish Fly” perished in a plane crash in Everglades City FL.  Captain Wejebe was not just a television personality hired to host a show, but was a fishing guide, world traveler, and avid sportsman who let us have a glimpse into his life each week.

Captain Wejebe even traveled here to Hatteras Island to fish with Captain Steve Coulter on the Sea Creature.  They had a good day fly fishing for tuna in the Gulf Stream off of Hatteras and filmed an episode of “Spanish Fly” from their adventure.

Frisco Rod and Gun owner, Bryan Perry, had the opportunity to fish with Captain Wejebe in the Florida Keys several years ago while filming a video to launch Shimano’s Butterfly Jig line and said this about him, “Jose Wejebe was real. He was not playing a part, but really loved what he was doing and wanted everyone with him to have a good time too.”

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and close friends.  We will miss what he brought to the sport of fishing.  And we will miss being able to be a part of his life each time he went on a new adventure in the ocean.

Well the weather here on Hatteras Island today was very windy, cloudy and somewhat rainy.  We had north-east winds 30-40 mph and the temperatures were in the low 50’s.  Tomorrow looks to be better.  The winds should drop to 15-20 mph out of the north and the temperatures will be around 60 degrees.  You should be here in Hatteras on Easter Sunday,  it looks even better.  Sunny skies and west winds 10-15 mph and the temperatures in the upper 60’s  Considering the weather we have no reports of any one who has caught anything.  We did sell some shrimp to a few folks who were going to give it a try.
