• Outer Banks Fishing Report 9-10-11

Here is your Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banks Fishing Report for Hatteras Island:

Well the weather has been so nice.  Sunny skies and light south winds at 5-10 mph with temperatures in the low 80’s.  Since Hurricane Katia passed by with all the rough surf it is calm again.  I don’t have a surf fishing report , but the shelling has been great.  So has the trash pickup from the beach.  We have been doing both.  The inshore fishing has been excellent.  Lots of Speckled Trout being caught.  Most fish are over 15 inches.  Check out our new website http://friscorodandgun.com/  We have a new look and on-line shopping.

    Thank You

  • Frisco Beach/Fishing Report 9-8-11

Well there is not much to report on the fishing front, but the beach combing has been pretty good.  The swell from Hurricane Katia is here and is washing up over some of the weaker dunes on the way to Hatteras village.  It’s just a little bit of over wash, barely crossing highway 12.  There has been lots of stuff washing up from shells, trees, lumber, bottles, plastic and other types of trash.  Today we took a walk down from the Frisco Pier to see what was out there.  The only interesting find was part of an old ship wreck.  It was just a small piece but you can see the iron studs through the wood.

We also found another piece of the Pier.  It still seems to be hanging on pretty good.  From the beach the Frisco Pier looks the same as before Hurricane Irene.

Here at Frisco Rod and Gun we sure hope the fishing gets back to normal and Hatteras Island is back open for business.  I feel in a couple of weeks the visitors will be allowed back on the island.  Don’t quote me though.

Also check out our new website and shop with our on-line store.  We will be adding new items all the time. http://friscorodandgun.com/

  • Hurricane Irene Aftermath Update 9-6-11

We have had a busy week getting put back together and ready for Hatteras Island to open back sometime in the near future.  We dropped off some supplies, pet food and snacks from the Frisco Market to the Town of Avon and Rodanthe yesterday.  Pets need to eat too.  We also snapped a few shots of Mirlo Beach at high tide.  From the photos you will see the workers working hard to put sand back into the split.

You will also see the next few houses holding on for dear life while the Atlantic Ocean eats away at their pilings.  Oh, thats whats left of the blue house in the second photo.

Hopefully Hurricane Katia doesn’t slow production to the road being fixed.   Thank You for checking in on us.  We will update as we get information.

  • Hurricane Irene Aftermath 9-5-11

Hurricane Irene has caused a large amount of damage to homes in the Rodanthe,Waves and Salvo area on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This picture shows an aerial view of the aftermath of Hurricane Irene in North Rodanthe.

Avon village on Hatteras Island also had a fair amount of flooding.  I went up to Salvo village, part of the tri-village area of Rodanthe, Salvo and Waves, yesterday on my day off to see if I could help.  At the Salvo fire department, they told me that most of the residents that stayed had most of their houses already cleared out of carpet and contents that were ruined.  The volunteers have been great helping out all who needed it.  I was told that ripping out wet insulation and construction material under the home were the tasks that were left to do in some houses.  So that’s what I and the other volunteers did.  What a mess, but a very important task to do because of all the mold and rot that occurs with standing water in the floor.  I was also told that when the residents arrive, there will be a another wave of houses that will need the same work. All residents on Hatteras Island were allowed to start returning today at noon by ferry.  The work load will be huge once again.

I took a few photos with my phone on the way up to show some of the debris on the side of the road.  I was there to work, not to take pictures, so I quickly snapped a few.

Also is a picture of the rental house “Tailwinds,” taken by Don Bowers, at the end of Rondathe that was destroyed by the ocean waters on the morning around 8:30 at high tide on September 2.

We at Frisco Rod and Gun will up date any information as we get it.  Thank You

  • Some of Our few Customers

The National Guard has been here since the day after the storm hit.   They have been helping out with supplies, food, water and a bit of order if needed.  Thankfully everyone has been helpful with the clean up effort.  Here the Guard is filling up the trucks the day after we got a new load of diesel and unleaded gas.
