Hatteras Island Hurricane Sandy Report

Here is the Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banks Hurricane Sandy Weather Report for Hatteras Island:

Well no fishing today.  We have had one wet and windy day here in Frisco NC.  We have had north-east winds 20-30 mph with gust to 55 mph.  One report of a 72 mph gust here today.  The temperatures were in the upper 60’s.  It has rained all day today and the ocean has washed over at multiple places on the island from the ocean and sound.  South of Oregon Inlet, Mirlo Beach in Rondanthe, The north end of Buxton and in between Frisco and Hatteras have ocean overwash.  Tonight the rain should subside and the wind will switch to the north-west and still blow 20-40 mph.  We have soundside flooding now and we are unsure how much more the sound will rise once the winds switch to the north-west.  We have posted some pictures on our facebook site throughout the day from people around the island.  We should be open tomorrow around 6 am as long as the sound tide does not rise much more than today.   We hope everyone stays safe from here all the way up the east coast who are in Hurricane Sandy’s path.
