Hatteras Island Fishing Report
August 26, 2025
Today was mostly sunny with little wind. Overcast at times but not gloomy. Today’s high was 81 while the low was 75 with light to gentle winds. Gusts up to 22mph. Currently it’s 75, feels like 76, with NE winds around 10mph. Gusts around 17mph. Tomorrow temps shouldn’t get above 80 or 81, we’re starting to see that cool front rolling through. Winds will continue from the NE/NNE at lighter speeds.

Sound water temp: 77-82

Ocean water temp: 77-82

Surf: Bluefish, Croaker, Red Drum, Spot

Sound: Bluefish, Red Drum

Inshore: Inshore parties caught Bluefish, Red Drum, and Speckled Trout.

Offshore: More boats got out there today and they brought in catches of Blackfin Tuna, Dolphin, and Wahoo. There were even a couple Sailfish released.

Hatteras Island Fishing Report
August 25, 2025
Today was nice and sunny. The real feel was of course a bit higher than the actual temps but nothing terrible. Today’s high was 84 while the low was 70 with light to moderate winds. Gusts up to 15mph. Currently it’s 81, feels like 88, with SW winds around 5mph. Tomorrow the temps and winds should be similar again.

Sound water temp: 77-82

Ocean water temp: 77-81

Surf: Black Drum, Bluefish, Red Drum, Sea Mullet

Sound: No report.

Inshore: No report.

Offshore: A few boats went out today and came back to the docks with Blackfin Tuna and Dolphin.

Today was cooler with sunshine, a little break in the gloom that Hurricane Erin brought. Clean up has already started in some places but Hwy 12 remains closed as of this time. Today’s high was 79 while the low was 70 with light to gentle winds. Gusts up to 25mph. Currently it’s 70, feels like 71, with NE winds around 5mph. Tomorrow should hold more light to gentle winds. Temps will be similar again.

Sound water temp: 77-82

Ocean water temp: 77-80

Surf: No report.

Inshore: No report.

Offshore: No report.

Hatteras Island Fishing Report
August 20, 2025
Today was a preview into the real deal. While the ocean overwash has already started, the winds have just begun. So, tomorrow will be interesting to see how everything unfolds. Hopefully Hurricane Erin gives our fragile beachline some grace. Today’s high was 84 while the low was 79 with light to moderate winds. Gusts up to 29mph. Currently it’s 81, feels like 84, with NE winds around 14mph. Gusts around 29mph. Tomorrow is going to bring strong winds with even stronger gusts and the ocean is only going to continue to swell. Instead of trying to predict the storm I’ll refer you to Windy Weather, Willy Weather, and NOAA sites for information.

Today held more sunshine and calm before the storm. Ocean overwash at the usual places did start at this evening’s high tide, as expected. The high was 88 while the low was 75 with light to gentle winds. Gusts up to 13mph. Currently it’s 79, feels like 87, with ENE winds around 4mph. Tomorrow is when the real deal starts. Instead of trying to predict the storm I’ll refer you to Windy Weather, Willy Weather, and NOAA sites for information.
