• Hatteras Island Fishing Report

    Today was another hot one. The UV stayed low to moderate until lunchtime so it was a nice morning to be outside. The high was 82 while the low was 75 with light to gentle winds. Gusts up to 21mph. Currently it’s 79, feels like 85, with SSW winds around 7mph. Tomorrow temps should be about the same or just a few degrees cooler. Winds are predicted to be light to moderate and continue to be from the SSW/WSW.

    Sound water temp: 80-83

    Ocean water temp: ~76


    Surf: Up north at the Bonner Bridge there have been catches of Bluefish, Red Drum, and Sheepshead. Avon and Rodanthe have seen Croaker. Avon has also reported catches of Bluefish, Red Drum, Sea Mullet, Sharks, and Spanish Mackerel. Hatteras has seen good Pompano.

    Sound: More Bluefish and Red Drum reported. A few Speckled Trout caught and released.

    Inshore: Inshore boats came back with Bluefish, Cobia, and Red Drum.

    Offshore: Offshore boats had catches of Blackfin Tuna, Dolphin, and Wahoo. Releases included Blue Marlin and Sailfish.

    Today was hot and humid, par for the course for the summer. The high was 82 while the low was 75 with light to moderate winds. Gusts up to 23mph. Currently it’s 79, feels like 82, with SSW winds around 11mph. Gusts around 20mph. Tomorrow should be a little warmer than today with a high of 85. Winds will continue at similar speeds and directions.

    Surf: The reports have mainly consisted of Croaker with Sea Mullet and Sharks scattered in.

    Sound: More Bluefish and Red Drum.

    Inshore: Inshore catches have been steady Bluefish and Red Drum. Also heard of Cobia and Spanish Mackerel.

    Offshore: Offshore reports included Bonita and Dolphin. Releases included Blue Marlin and Sailfish.

    6/10/25

    Surf: Only heard of scattered Croaker.

    Sound: No report.

    Inshore: Only Red Drum were reported today.

    Offshore: Offshore boat stayed tied to the docks due to wind.

    6/11/25

    Surf: Scattered throughout the island there have been catches of Bluefish, Croaker, Flounder (released), Pompano, Red Drum, Sea Mullet, and Spanish Mackerel.

    Sound: The iconic sound trio: Bluefish, Red Drum, and Speckled Trout (released).

    Inshore: Inshore boats had good luck catching Bluefish, Red Drum, and Sheepshead.

    Offshore: Offshore boats brought in Blackfin Tuna, Dolphin, and Yellowfin Tuna. Releases included Blue Marlin and Sailfish.

Currently it’s 73, feels like 76, with S winds around 10mph. Tomorrow should be about as hot as today. Winds will be similar directions and speeds as well. Chance of rain in the morning.

    Surf: Avon: Bluefish, Pompano, Sea Mullet. – Buxton: Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel. – Hatteras: Bluefish, Pompano, Sea Mullet.

    Sound: Reports included Bluefish and Red Drum.

    Inshore: Inshore boats brought in Bluefish, Cobia, Red Drum, and Sheepshead.

    Offshore: Offshore boats had luck with Amberjack, Blackfin Tuna, Dolphin, and Grouper. Releases included a couple Blue Marlins.

    6/8/25

    Surf: Avon: Bluefish, Croaker, Sea Mullet. – Buxton: Grey Trout, Sea Mullet. – Hatteras: Pompano, Sea Mullet.

    Sound: We heard of Speckled Trout being caught. Unfortunately the season is still closed so they are catch and release only.

    Inshore: We’ve only heard of Bluefish being caught today.

    Offshore: No report.

    Today was already overcast before the rain moved in. It’s been on and off for hours now. The high was 77 while the low was 73 with light to strong winds. Gusts up to 12mph. Currently it’s 73 with S winds around 16mph. Gusts around 29mph. Tomorrow’s temps will be about the same while winds will die down. Chance of rain in the early morning.

    6/4/25

    Surf: From up and down the beaches we’ve heard of Bluefish, Croaker, Pompano, Sea Mullet, Sharks, and Spot scattered throughout.

    Sound: The sound catches have been the usual Bluefish, Red Drum, and Speckled Trout.

    Inshore: Inshore boats have had steady catches of Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel. A lonely Cobia was also reported.

    Offshore: Blackfin tuna and Dolphin were reported. Releases included a Blue Marlin and Sailfish with a few White Marlin.

    6/5/25

    Surf: The word from the surf is Croaker, Pompano, and Sea Mullet.

    Sound: In the sound we’ve heard of Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel being caught.

    Inshore: No report.

    Offshore: Despite the impending rain, the offshore boats still got out. They returned with catches of Blackfin Tuna, Dolphin, and Skipjack Tuna.
