• Hatteras Island Fishing Report

Here is the Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banks Fishing Report for Hatteras Island.

Another cloudy cold day here on the island. The temperature stayed below freezing all day today with a high of 28. The winds started out rough today from the north 10-20 mph with gust near 30 mph but slowly laid out throughout the day.

We did hear of some speckled trout biting today but no one would tell where they where, other than that there wasn’t much fishing happening. The hunt was pretty good this morning. Reports of a good bufflehead hunt later in the morning and fairly good early hunt this morning.

No inshore or offshore report due to the boats staying at the dock.

    Andresen Advisory Gunnin’ Birds

Gunnin’ Birds, is a treasure of information for those particularly interested in the North Carolina and Back Bay, Virginia decoys. It includes over 1300 images with 936 pictures of decoys carved by over 200 carvers. Inside, Andresen identifies the origins of many of his own decoys and uncovers the history and legacy of some of the lesser known carvers in the North Carolina and Back Bay, Virginia communities.

This comprehensive guide provides a wealth of knowledge to decoy enthusiasts and Southern historians alike. Andresen does an excellent job of organizing his vast findings and writings in a very accessible, engaging way so that even a casual hobbyist will come away from the book with heightened understanding and enthusiasm for decoy collecting.

Today we had clear skies with a high around 53F, with light west-north-west breezes,

There’s nothing much to report on the beach front, except for sharks.  There has been no charter boats going out either.  The commercial boats have been going and they have been getting, you guessed it, dog sharks.  Maybe this cold front will turn the fishing around for us all.

Today was partly cloudy, with much cooler temperatures.  We had a high of 51F and northwest winds blowing 15-8 mph, then switching to the west-north-west tonight.

The only thing going on is sharks.  On Ramp 43, Clyde Coletrain from Rodanthe had a double-header on, one reel stripped all the way.  Rod and Gun’s very own Justin Waterfield and family were taking a beach ride, when they got flagged down by Clyde for help.  Justin helped bring the shark in.  There were two blacktips, 5 1/2 ft long.  Nice job! Here’s a couple of pictures taken.

Today we had a high of 70F.  The skies were cloudy, with rain showers off and on throughout the day.  It was windy, 15-22 mph out of the southwest.

There is no beach fishing report for today.  I can bet there are big sharks at Cape Point though and a few dog shark around here and there.

There is no inshore or offshore report for today.  The winds kept the boats at the docks.
