Hatteras Island Fishing Report

Here is the Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banks Fishing Report for Hatteras Island.

Today we had a cold and windy day. The winds were from the north-east at 15-20 mph with higher gusts and the temperatures were in the upper 30’s with the windchill around 27 degrees.

Tonight at 7pm was the start of the culvert replacement in Frisco just past the Indian Town Gallery. Hwy 12 is closed until the job has been completed no later than Monday morning at 6am. They hope to be finished before that deadline. The only detour is driving the beach at Ramp 44 and 45 along the dune line in Buxton to Frisco at Ramp 49. No permit is required but 4 wheel drive is.

Fishing today was tough. I did hear of a few folks trying to fish on the Frisco Beach but no report was giving.

There is no inshore report or offshore report today.

Cape Hatteras Notebook: Crazy Winter- Snow to Shorts and Back

They say in Hatteras if you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it will change. We have had days of sunglasses and flip flops that have changed to woolen sweaters and snow boots in the space of a day! While we have not gone through the frigid blast that our friends up north have dealt with, we have had an unusually cold winter. I don’t know why I am surprised though, the trees around here told us it would be a cold winter way back in the fall. I can remember my Great Uncle Curt telling us that you can tell a cold winter is coming by the amount of berries the local Holly and Yaupon trees produce. And this year I noticed early that they both were putting on show of bright red berries!

We can’t complain though. The puppy drum fishing has been exciting. The snow was a novelty for us. And we have enjoyed sunny and warm days to get out and stretch our legs in between the cold ones. I even got the twins out for a stroll on a few really nice days!

I think I can speak for all of us and say we are looking forward to Spring. And it is on its way on Hatteras Island. My daffodils are starting to emerge from the soil, my apple tree has tiny buds, and one day this week a fat, sassy robin landed on my porch railing and peeked in my window. I assume he was admiring himself in his reflection in the glass, but I would like to think he was there to tell me that warm days are just around the corner. People are thinking Spring too. The National Park Service has announced that Frisco Campground is opening back up on April 18, beach houses are being booked by visitors planning their beach getaways, the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau has its Visitor’s Guide available online now, and Frisco Rod and Gun has been busy getting Spring and Summer things in to get you on the beaches and in the boats! Spring is headed this way, are you?

Hatteras Island Fishing Report

Here is the Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banks Fishing Report for Hatteras Island.

Today we had a nice sunny day. The winds were from the west at 10-15 mph and the temperatures were in the low 50’s.

Fishing was good today from the beaches. Out at Cape Point the puppy drum bite was really good along with a 42″ drum release. A few speckled trout were also reported out at Cape Point in Buxton. Over Ramp 49 in Frisco we had good puppy drum fishing with some sea mullet and a few blow toads mixed in. The water temperature is in the upper 50’s on the beaches south of Cape Point.

There is no inshore report today but a few offshore boats did fish. They caught some albacore and a few blackfin tuna.

Hatteras Island Fishing Report

Here is the Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banks Fishing Report for Hatteras Island.

Today we had rainy and overcast conditions.. The winds were from the north-east at 10-20 mph and the temperatures were in the low 40’s.

Although I have not heard of anyone catching puppy drum today, I’m sure if there were someone fishing they would have caught a few around Cape Point in Buxton and on the Frisco Beach.

There is no inshore report or offshore report today.

Hatteras Island Fishing Report

Here is the Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banks Fishing Report for Hatteras Island.

Today we had windy and overcast conditions.. The winds were from the north-east at 10-20 mph and the temperatures were in the low 50’s.

The puppy drum bite was good today on the Frisco Beach over Ramp 49. The Picture is Karlene fighting a double-header puppy drum on the Frisco Beach today.

There is no inshore report. The few offshore boats that fished had reports of good triggerfish and some blackfin tuna. Below is the some of the catch of triggerfish from the “Godspeed” charter boat today.

I ran into some of the Wicked Tuna crowd today up in Wanchese while driving around with my little boy Bodey. I talked to the “Hot Tuna” Captain TJ Ott and he said he was taken a lay day after catching two bluefins yesterday on the green stick. Other boats were fishing today but the action was slower Ott said.
