IMR White Hote Muzzleloader Preformed charges

IMR White Hots Muzzleloader Preformed Charges

White Hots is a non-nitrocellulose-based muzzleloader substitute pellet propellant billed as the only white gunpowder. Two 50-grain pellets yielded shots above 1,800 fps using 240-grain saboted projectiles. Three 50-grain pellets achieved over 2,000 fps with a variety of 240- through 290-grain saboted projectiles. White Hots are easy to load and leave behind little residue, which makes for easy cleaning. After more than 10 rounds, I swabbed my rifle bore spotlessly clean with three wet patches and one dry patch. White Hots are intended for .50 caliber inline muzzleloaders using any 209 shotshell primer ignition system. A new portable hunt pack allows loads to be taken to the field packed in transparent tubes for easy access and minimal contamination.

  • Cape Hatteras Notebook: Early Duck Season

Duck Hunters get a little taste of a Duck Season in the beginning of October. Yes, it is hot. Yes, it is snaky. Yes, they go anyway. From October 1-4 the mini season runs and it is just enough to get hunters excited about the real deal in the next couple of months.

This week a couple of friends of ours went out to see what might be flying this early and were not disappointed. They chose to hunt up on Bodie Island in the Public Hunt Blinds managed by the Park Service. Getting deep in the woods in the sedge on Hatteras Island is just a little too crowded this early…..crowded by Cottonmouths!

On the first day one friend got a couple of Pintails.

On the next day they shot a couple of Blue Winged Teal.

The information for the next season and the limits for Duck Hunting in our area can be found at North Carolina Wildlife Commission’s webpage.

The early season is over for now, but before you know it will start to get cooler outside, then downright cold. The ducks will be flying our way. And the hunters will be delighted!

Today was a sunny but windy day. The winds were south-west 10-15mph and the temperature was in the upper 70’s.

Fishing from the beach was a little slower due the wind. In Avon the bluefish, spot, and puppy drum were biting. In Buxton there was some bluefish and some drum caught. Frisco beaches were grassy but some bluefish were caught.  Hatteras beach fishing was slow but some drum were caught on the soundside.

No inshore or offshore report for today due to wind keeping boat at the dock.

  • Hatteras Island Fishing Report

Here is the Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banks Fishing Report for Hatteras Island.

The weather today started off beautiful winds were north 5-10mph but turned south around mid afternoon. The temperature was around 70 throughout the day.

Fishing from the beaches was good in the morning until the wind shifted. In Avon there was puppy drum, bluefish, spot, and some sea-mullet caught. In Buxton and Frisco the water was to rough and dirty to fish. Some place in Buxton the waves were to the dunes leaving no beach to fish from. In Hatteras there was some flounder and bluefish caught.

Inshore boats found the drum again today and some reported 20+ fish caught. The bluefish were biting today also.

Offshore the dolphin and wahoo fishing was good with limits caught. The black fin tuna were scattered today. Only a few sailfish were released today. From the bottom the amberjack, tilefish, triggerfish, rosefish, and squirrel fish were caught.
